Atavism noun a tendency to revert to something ancient or ancestral: the more civilised a society seems to be, the more susceptible it is to its buried atavism.

A dachlawine may be a pole that warns pedestrians of the risk of an avalanche falling from the roof of a Viennese building.

The dachlawine on page four is ‘Space for Pink Picture’ (1972) by Jan Svoboda.
